RetroArch v1.3 -- PlayStation 3 (PS3) DEX Version

$
0
0
RetroArch (PS3) v1.3 is officially here, it has been sometime ago since we seen an official update for RetroArch to hit the PS3, the previous official version was v1.0.0.2. While the community has seen some unofficial compiles in recent months, such as Ezio_PS with his compiles of v1.2.2. If you have used those unofficial releases you will see even more new things then what was in those recent compiles. There is alot of new eye-candy in this update as the emulator gets a new XMB MENU and is now the default User Interface, Also there is some new cores (emulated systems) that are present in this release , some of these additions we seen in the Unofficial Compiles of Ezio_PS and since have matured a bit and some new additions have been brought on as well. These details and more can be seen in the information provided by libretro.com and also psx-place.com.

There could be a quick release of v1.3.1, the release of the PS3 version has a bit of mystery attached to it, as the version was announced along with the other RetroArch v1.3 updates for other platforms. As all platforms expect for the PS3 version are hosted on the libretro.com website, but the PS3 version as in the past appears over at xbins.org. There is a release listing that is there for this version of RetroArch on the PS3, but it lacks the download link. One of Team Libretro developers huntrek stated that he thinks it was pulled for some last minutes fixes, but he is not the lead dev on the PS3 port and as we have tried to reach out on twitter and posted in the forums and seen the official announcement is not corrected... So, with that said and not alot of conformation we are unsure if this was pulled or the xbins FTP is where the desired download location was all along. I have tested this version a bit myself along with others and i will say its more stable then the recent unofficial compiles and adds some new features and cores. but its remains unknown at this time if this was pulled or just a sloppy release in the terms in how it was posted, not a sloppy product as the RetroArch team has really done some amazing stuff especially with this update..

So take a look at this release, as its something that is been hyped for a bit and promised for a long time to PS3 users. For CFW CEX user's there is no CEX version at this time, but if your a REBUG CFW user and on one of the latest builds of REX you can use DEX packages on CEX, without a convert to CEX

RetroArch Improvements

Improved playlist support

  • Both PlayStation1 and PSP games can now be scanned. Once the games are scanned and identified inside the database, they are added to a system-specific playlist. This makes it easy and convenient for you to start these games by just going to the playlist and selecting them instead of having to go through the filesystem and manually select the file again.

Revamped user interface

  • There was a ton of criticism about version 1.2’s user interface on mobile devices, like Android. We have decided to give it a makeover. It now resembles a Material Design user interface and some of the annoying display bugs were fixed on Android. It now also has tabs at the bottom which you can touch. This can quickly take you to the playlists and/or settings screen.
  • XMB has also received a makeover. A bunch of actions now have their own tabs inside the horizontal menu. For instance, you can now scan for content by going to the ‘Add’ tab and selecting a directory instead of having to navigate through a bunch of menus. The history list is also now on a separate tab, as is the settings themselves.

RetroArch/libretro’s reach

  • We don’t like to brag a lot and we don’t like self posturing. Nevertheless, RetroArch and libretro is definitely starting to become omnipresent. Plenty of people have used it in some form or another without even being aware of its name or its existence. For instance, there have been plenty of projects unrelated to us or the team (like NewRetroArcade) which were actually just libretro frontends implementing the libretro API, and the popular Raspberry Pi distribution RetroPie for instance uses RetroArch for a lot of the videogame emulation it provides.
  • Not everything has gone according to plan. We had to do a very substantial rewrite this past year that has definitely been daunting and some of you noticed that things didn’t progress as fast as we’d like but we are finally out of development hell again and ready to fire on all cylinders again. There will never again be another half a year delay in development due to endless rewrites.

What’s next for RetroArch

  • RetroArch 1.4 (the next version) will bring RetroArch to two new platforms.

REBUG REX User's

If using one of the latest release of REBUG REX you should be able to use the DEX version even on CEX.

PlayStation 3 CFW developer Alexander has released the latest version of his FERROX CFW, following the release of PLAYERKP420's 4.78 CFW. This CFW from Alexander while a Standard CEX also (like platerkp420's) does contain some additional features and patches for PS3 Custom Firmware users. In this edition of FERROX the developer has Disabled Cinavia, Removed Epilepsy Warning on the console boot, A new feature in FERROX firmware is an Integrated Package Manager to replace the standard Install Package Files. Now unlike playerkp420's CFW this does not handle MAMBA in the current form and according to test done in the developer's notes MAMBA v2.1.5 "Identified a Brick. Do not use FOR SAFETY UNTIL NEXT UPDATE.". , but do note that MAMBA does not handle the PSP/PS2 loading methods of Cobra, but other then that MAMBA has successfully cloned Cobra,

[TIP] Easy way to make hashcalc (cobra) work on Windows

$
0
0
Basically hashcalc from cobra sources don't have too much dependencies, only thing that is needed is unself2.exe file. But unself have more dependencies it need cygwin, ps3 keys, and correctly set system variables. Of course for some devs is not problem to do this, but... i'm lazy so i found easy way to make it work. :)

Why this way is easiest? Because you don't need to set any system variables like in original f0f tools, here PUAD do this for you. Because we gonna use unself_PUAD.exe modified by @Evilnat all paths to cygwin files, keys, etc. will be already set to PUAD instalation folder.

Requirements:

- Puad GUI v1.5 Installed
- hashcalc.exe

First time preparing:

Make folder (for example C:\hashcalc) with hashcalc.exe inside, now copy file unself_PUAD.exe from (in this case for 64 bit install):
Code:

C:\Program Files\Akatsuki\PUAD GUI\bin\ps3tools
to
Code:

C:\hashcalc And rename it to unself2.exe
Now we are should be able to run hashcalc without problem. To test this put .self (eg. vsh.self) file that need to be checked in to C:\hashcalc. Now in hashcalc folder press and hold shift and press right button on mouse and select Open Command Window Here, now type:
Code:

hashcalc vsh.self
If everything is fine then you should see two hashes of your file. Like this one:
cmd a.jpg
In most cases we need only first one.

Why i need this? Hashes need to be added to modulespatch.h file before compiling stage2 of cobra add on. Without correct hashes is impossible to make working cobra cfw. Also is imposible to make correct spoof or remove epilepsy warning for cobra cfw without editing/calculating this patches again.

hey everyone hope all is well. since my last post i didnt do much since i had gone back to OFW cause some of this stuff is confusing. xbox 360 wasnt this in depth but its cool cause i enjoy learning new things.

so all i have to say about that Effin nor clip is ill never EVER use one again and i have wired up the 100 solder points to read/write the nor and it works flawless.

but in order for me to be able to R/W and boot from the E3 Nor i have to CUT! a trace? and i am able to boot from the E3 OB nor chip right? or is this just a storage for a nor image?

also please someone correct me if i am wrong but from what i understand is.....

i make a Backup of my ps3 nor chip and save it to my desktop or whatever and remove my HDD thats has ben updated to latest firmware in the first place before E3 install.
and i can just put back in my OFW HDD and flash that nor backup of my OFW and be lagit.

take that backup and patch it and then flash it to ps3 nor chip and do the rogero downgrader/ QA flag it and then install CFW of my choice with a differant HDD for CFW.
and doing the same thing wiith the CFW nor IMG and CFW HDD for all my offline fun stuff.

is all this correct? is this safe
or am i supposed to run CFW img and HDD on the E3 nor chip Hence why i need to Cut the trace?

if you have read all this i really appreciate it and thank you.

Way to continue to fail Sony, EML hacks still alive in Vita FW 3.57!!!

$

0
Well seems EML hacks are patched as of 3.55 right? WRONG!! We just can't do it via the email app but we can still do this even on 3.57 with the calender app. Another epic failure on Sony's behalf.

Quote:

Well its been nearly 4 months since when Sony “patched” the fail-mail tricks to dump and write to the Vita’s filesystem but only short time after that, Major_Tom already published this tweet saying, at least, the dumping part does still work.

LMAO, I can dump files in 3.55

— Major_Tom (@frtomtomdu80) September 30, 2015

Sony was probably in a big hurry trying to fix everything as soon as possible and since we are talking about Sony they of course failed.. (kind of)

I thought they would change system apps permissions but the email app is still able to read/write to ux0, AND other partitions, that’s for sure!

In the end, they didn’t change the whole e-mail app permissions regarding accessing the Vita like Major_Tom predicted, no, they “just” patched the URI-calling used for the trick (email:send?attach=) in the mail-app. (Most like because they were in a hurry and wanted to stick to their planned firmware release schedule for 3.55 with this quick ‘damage control’ fix.)

Well we weren’t quite sure (after the 3.57 update gone public and patched this last week) if we should publish the following method at all, but since today someone over at wololo’s forum mentioned this as well, why not, right?! Although it was mentioned a couple of times before, we can easily use the Calendar app to call support_uri(s), let’s hope Sony doesn’t decide to finally patch this after all. Anyways here is..

How to dump files on firmware 3.55

1) Create a new calendar Event

2) Go to “Description” and write down the support uri with the file-link and save it

vita_calendar_desc

3) Select “Send by Email”

vita_calendar_send

4) Now this should look familiar to you and all you need to do is send back this mail to your mail account and retrieve the file.

multiMAN v04.78.00 - An update by deank to Support 4.78 Custom Firmware

Good news for fans of multiMAN and user's of 4.78 CFW, as developer deank drops the latest version of multiMAN to the PS3 community as the developer pushes v04.78.00 through the multiMAN online update from within the ps3 homebrew application. With the version marked as 04.78.00 the backup manager now joins the family of 4.78 (CFW) compatible homebrew applications, this update has also provided some updated translation for Japanese user's as Kyan_dudl supplies deank with the latest materials. Great to see the continued support deank still offers to multiMAN, which has became one of the best AIO managers for the PS3. but one of my personal favorites from deank was the creation of webMAN, and how that has been a very influential release for the community. Enjoy the latest version of multiMAN now supporting 4.78 CFW, and a huge thanks and hello goes out developer deank for this latest update for multiMAN.

Does anyone have an opinion about the best PS3 file manager for moving backups from my internal to external hdd? The only file manager I've used is multiMAN. Just wondering if you guys think there is something better than that.

Team REBUG is back again with a new Custom Firmware Release to enter the 4.78 Custom Firmware Era with 4.78.1 REBUG REX (D-REX) + COBRA v7.20, and as always the firmware has equipped the latest REBUG ToolBox (installs via Install Package Files). This may mark one of the fastest REBUG REX releases to hit the scene after an official firmware while that alone may be impressive about this release, Team Rebug also has some additional features to share in this CFW release for 4.78 user's.. The first change is that XMB Manager Plus (XMBM+) is now supported in this firmware, XMB Settings (by Mysis and mods by littlebalup/aldostools) have been added to the firmware and can be toggled on and off via the newly updated REBUG Toolbox (v2.02.09), plus webMAN MOD (Rebug Edition) has been updated to v1.43.25 and has been integrated into this CFW release. Then of course REX (D-REX) comes equipped with the COBRA v7.2 payload, bringing you all those features found in this chart.

Team Rebug has very well documented release notes, and they can be found at the official website, so be sure to visit rebug.me for all the details and usage surrounding this CEX-DEX hybrid that we know as REX (for CEX users) and D-REX (for DEX user's). Also be sure to view additional 4.78 Custom Firmware Releases & Homebrew in this chart from our psx-place.com forums for all the latest 4.78 related releases.

Rebug XMB Wave

this wave is vertical and color-changing. u can cycle through the changes by turning on the system or changing the time of day in the date/time settings. the wave should split in half creating two or even three waves of different colors. also, I've used the rebug logo colors to create the particles. I hope this looks nice. :)

4.76 Rebug Unable to Install Packages

Firmware PS3 Slim:
4.76 REBUG 7.1 Cobra
My Problem:
I can't seem to install packages that I download like psnpatcher or reactpsn. Installing any packages I get error 80029563.

How this Happened:
I bought a custom ps3 rebug from my friend and after a month or so I decided to play psn games. There was an already multiman, rebug toolbox retro. I upgraded reactpsn to 2.5 (was 2.0) and it worked but I got unknown errors like unknown cfw. I figured that I needed the newest update but I couldn't upgrade to any newer one. At least I tried deleting the game file and username plus changed extract all pk type and game flag on redbug but then I was unable to install any package. I tried to retrace my steps but to no hope. Reseting the options did not do anything and usign cobra/on/off didn't help.

Any help to make able to install packages for reactpsn would make so happy and be greatly appreciatied.
