RetroArch (PS3) v1.3 is officially here, it has been sometime ago since we seen an official update for
RetroArch to hit the PS3, the previous official version was v1.0.0.2. While the community has seen some unofficial compiles in recent months, such as Ezio_PS with his compiles of v1.2.2. If you have used those unofficial releases you will see even more new things then what was in those recent compiles. There is alot of new eye-candy in this update as the emulator gets a new XMB MENU and is now the default User Interface, Also there is some new cores (emulated systems) that are present in this release , some of these additions we seen in the
Unofficial Compiles of Ezio_PS and since have matured a bit and some new additions have been brought on as well
. These details and more can be seen in the information provided by libretro.com and also psx-place.com.
There could be a quick release of v1.3.1, the release of the PS3 version has a bit of mystery attached to it, as the version was announced
along with the other RetroArch v1.3 updates for other platforms. As all platforms expect for the PS3 version are hosted on the libretro.com website, but the PS3 version as in the past appears over at
xbins.org. There is a release listing that is there for this version of RetroArch on the PS3, but it lacks the download link. One of
Team Libretro developers huntrek stated that he thinks it was pulled for some last minutes fixes, but he is not the lead dev on the PS3 port and as we have tried to reach out on twitter and posted in the forums and seen the official announcement is not corrected... So, with that said and not alot of conformation we are unsure if this was pulled or the xbins FTP is where the desired download location was all along. I have tested this version a bit myself along with others and i will say its more stable then the recent unofficial compiles and adds some new features and cores. but its remains unknown at this time if this was pulled or just a sloppy release in the terms in how it was posted, not a sloppy product as the RetroArch team has really done some amazing stuff especially with this update..
So take a look at this release, as its something that is been hyped for a bit and promised for a long time to PS3 users. For CFW CEX user's there is no CEX version at this time, but if your a REBUG CFW user and on one of the latest builds of REX you can use DEX packages on CEX, without a convert to CEX

RetroArch (PS3) v1.3
What's New for RetroArch - PlayStation3 (PS3)
The PS3 version features some big changes. MaterialUI and XMB are both available now as menu drivers. The XMB menu driver is now enabled by default. Libretro database support is in, and things should generally work fine.
I released only the DEX version. PS3 sceners can take the DEX release and create a CEX version of it.

New User Interfaces (& Re-designes)
RetroArch Improvements
Improved playlist support
- Both PlayStation1 and PSP games can now be scanned. Once the games are scanned and identified inside the database, they are added to a system-specific playlist. This makes it easy and convenient for you to start these games by just going to the playlist and selecting them instead of having to go through the filesystem and manually select the file again.
Revamped user interface
- There was a ton of criticism about version 1.2s user interface on mobile devices, like Android. We have decided to give it a makeover. It now resembles a Material Design user interface and some of the annoying display bugs were fixed on Android. It now also has tabs at the bottom which you can touch. This can quickly take you to the playlists and/or settings screen.
- XMB has also received a makeover. A bunch of actions now have their own tabs inside the horizontal menu. For instance, you can now scan for content by going to the Add tab and selecting a directory instead of having to navigate through a bunch of menus. The history list is also now on a separate tab, as is the settings themselves.
RetroArch/libretros reach
- We dont like to brag a lot and we dont like self posturing. Nevertheless, RetroArch and libretro is definitely starting to become omnipresent. Plenty of people have used it in some form or another without even being aware of its name or its existence. For instance, there have been plenty of projects unrelated to us or the team (like NewRetroArcade) which were actually just libretro frontends implementing the libretro API, and the popular Raspberry Pi distribution RetroPie for instance uses RetroArch for a lot of the videogame emulation it provides.
- Not everything has gone according to plan. We had to do a very substantial rewrite this past year that has definitely been daunting and some of you noticed that things didnt progress as fast as wed like but we are finally out of development hell again and ready to fire on all cylinders again. There will never again be another half a year delay in development due to endless rewrites.
Whats next for RetroArch
- RetroArch 1.4 (the next version) will bring RetroArch to two new platforms.
REBUG REX User's
If using one of the latest release of REBUG REX you should be able to use the DEX version even on CEX.
