Hi all

Finally PS3Lock v0.6 is finished :)
screenshot_2015_09_24_23_21_43.JPG

PS3Lock is an authentication-system for the PlayStation 3.
An personal password protects your PS3 against unauthorized access or gives you a restricted access.
Video is from v0.4
Screenshots are up to date from v0.6

How it works

After installation, at first boot you will be prompted to define a password (min. 2 digits, max. 10 digits).
To set the password you can use the following buttons:

- :dpad-up:, :dpad-right:, :dpad-down:, :dpad-left:
- :/\:, :o:, :x:, :[]:
- :L1:, :R1:

With :L3: you can cancel the entry and with :R3: you can save the password.

After saving, the PS3 is protected by this password and is required after each restart.
After 3 incorrect entries the PS3 will shut down automatically.
Authentication is done in the same way as you save it or via an USB device.
You have to set up this USB device and this device have to be in "/dev_usb000" (most right, close to BD drive)
on PS3 startup. Don't forget to enable "USB authentication" in the settings menu.

* NEW
Through the "restricted mode" it is possible to lock the "XMB settings" (ALSO system update) and
the "deleting apps/games" in the XMB. In this mode the games under "dev_hdd0/GAMEZ" are hidden
(folder renamed in GAMEZx). For this mode no password is needed.

"PS3Lock sleep timer" gives you a time-limited access to the PS3.
The sleep timer can set to 0:30h, 1:00h, 1:30h, 2:00h, 2:30h, 3:00h.
After 3 warning messages (10, 5, 1min before the preset time), the PS3 will be shutdown.

Password protection for PS3Lock settings and XMB possible.
Password request for PS3Lock settings and in recurring to XMB (after closing apps/games).

Perfect child protection:

Restricted mode + PS3Lock sleep timer is the perfect child protection.
The restricted mode gives access to the PS3 without a password and through the sleep timer this
mode is time-limited. After shutdown through the sleep timer the restricted mode is automatically disabled.
If restricted mode is disabled you get access to the PS3 only with password.

* NEW
- Hidden option to show the "Parental Control" password. (screenshot statistics)
- Language update function from USB. (screenshot advanced settings)
- Plugin update function from USB. (screenshot statistics)
- New button layout :x::/\::[]::o::L1::R1:... instead of /\ X [] O L1 R2...
thanks @littlebalup :)

* NEW
*1
Block system update:
Since version 0.6 you can block the system update, following CFW are supported:

- 4.46
- 4.50
- 4.55
- 4.60
- 4.66
- 4.70
- 4.75
- 4.76

In order to block the system update, i use the modified files from XMB Lock from @ermak86 . Thank you mate :)
NOTHING is changed in dev_flash so this CAN'T cause a brick by incorrect use!
If you setup your CFW (the real, NOT the spoofed version) and the option is enabled then PS3Lock redirect
the original file "/dev_flash/vsh/module/software_update_plugin.sprx" to
"/dev_hdd0/Plugins/PS3Lock/Block_Update/software_update.block_XXX" (XXX your CFW). NOTHING touched in dev_flash!
This option is auto-enabled in "Restricted mode" or you can manually enable/disable in advanced settings.
You can also set the update block to "permanent", then the update block is auto-enabled after each restart
(independent from restricted mode).
Thanks a lot @aldostools for the hint with "sys_map_path()" ;)

- Open the PS3Lock settings -> Advanced settings ( :L1: )
- Go to "Block system update"
- setup your CFW and push :[]:

* NEW
*2
PS3Lock start delay:
For CFWs without epilepsy warning i recommend 1-3 sec, for CFWs with epilepsy warning i recommend 6-9 sec.
If the menu seems to "frozen" after password entry then try to open the settings menu, if you see
the settings menu then try to increase delay time and push :L2:+:R2:+:L3: for restart.

* NEW
*3
PS3Lock languages (ps3l_lang.db):
Since version 0.6 the languages are in an extern file. This language file (ps3l_lang.db) can be edit
with normal text editor (i use Notepad++). Don't add or remove the lines! Just edit! There are 12
languages (number 10, 11 and 12 are placeholder for new languages). PS3Lock has a language update function.

- Copy "ps3l_lang.db" on any USB device in fat32 format (X:/ps3l_lang.db)
- This USB device have to be in "/dev_usb000" (most right, close to BD drive)
- Open the PS3Lock settings -> Advanced settings ( :L1: )
- Go to "Language" and push :[]:

Plugin update function:
Since version 0.6 there is a built-in update function. This function use the following install path:
"/dev_hdd0/Plugins/PS3Lock/ps3lock_vsh.sprx"
To avoid errors, the config (/dev_hdd0/Plugins/PS3Lock/ps3lock_cfg.bin) also will be deleted.

- Copy "ps3lock_vsh.sprx" on any USB device in fat32 format (X:/ps3lock_vsh.sprx)
- This USB device have to be in "/dev_usb000" (most right, close to BD drive)
- Open the PS3Lock settings -> Stats ( :R1: )
- Push :R3: + :x:

Installation

If you update this plugin i recommend to delete "ps3lock_cfg.bin" before restart.
"/dev_hdd0/Plugins/PS3Lock/ps3lock_cfg.bin"

1. Plugin installation on Cobra CFW

- Copy the content from "~hdd0" to "/dev_hdd0".
- Copy the boot_plugins.txt to "/dev_hdd0"
- If boot_plugins.txt already exist on /dev_hdd0 then add the following line:
Code:

/dev_hdd0/Plugins/PS3Lock/ps3lock_vsh.sprx
- Reboot the PS3.

- Go to "USB authentication" and push :[]:

3. Background

- PS3Lock can also load a background pic from "/dev_hdd0/Plugins/PS3Lock/PS3Lock_BG.png" (720x464).

Forgot password ?

There are several ways to reset the password:

1.
PS3Lock fail-safe button combo + flag file on USB device.

- Create the flag file "ps3lock.reset" on any USB device in fat32 format (X:/ps3lock.reset).
- This USB device have to be in "/dev_usb000" (most right, close to BD drive).
- Start the PS3 and hit :R3: + :[]: + :o: on startup.
- PS3Lock delete Config and the flag file "/dev_usb000/ps3lock.reset" from USB device.
- PS3Lock now behaves like at the first start, now set up a new password.

2.
With a correctly set up USB device AND "USB authentication" enabled in the settings.

- Boot into XMB with this USB device.
- Delete the PS3Lock config file with multiMAN or other file manager.
"/dev_hdd0/Plugins/PS3Lock/ps3lock_cfg.bin"
- Reboot your PS3.
- PS3Lock now behaves like in the first start, now set up a new password.

3.
If you don't have an USB device OR "USB authentication" is disabled.

- Boot into recovery mode.
- Enter "3. Restore File System".
The "boot_plugins.txt" will be delete, now all plugins are disabled.
- Delete the PS3Lock config file with multiMAN or other file manager.
"/dev_hdd0/Plugins/PS3Lock/ps3lock_cfg.bin"
- Rebuild the "boot_plugins.txt" on "/dev_hdd0/" and reboot your PS3.
- PS3Lock now behaves like in the first start, now set up a new password.

The Day the Vita Scene Blew Up!!

$

So today has been quiet memorable for the Vita. We have custom themes, read/write on the entire file system (carts and memory cards included), PSTV unlocked, PKG installer unlocked, PS3 Remote play on PSTV, swap X/O buttons, the return of bubbles, game cart sharing, restore accounts from other PSN ID's and so much more. The huge flaw in the email app has lead to some pretty amazing feats as of today.

I for one am simply blown away at the amount of info and hacks flooding in. Just when I had started to lose faith at the amount of info shared it just blows up in my face. I can handle being wrong in situations like this. Everything just shy of pure piracy is now at our finger tips. And that I don't mind at all. I feel I finally have control of my system. And this is only day one. Seems Sony's second gen handheld isn't so secure after all folks. Hell even the PSP saw love today with perma install CFW above 6.20 by Davee with his 6.61 hack.

So what's your thoughts on all of this you guys? It's been enough to keep me reading and informed all day. I feel as if I haven't even scratched the tip of the iceberg.

[GUIDE] How to change BD region /w Cobra CFW

HOW TO CHANGE BD REGION /w COBRA CFW

1. multiMAN Method

1. insert your bd disc
2. launch multiMAN
3. go to the setting
4. set your bd movie region to EUR [B]

5. go to video column
6. launch showtime from there
7. open bluray drive from showtime's file manager
8. try launching bdmv file from there
9. exit out
10. mount blu-ray disc from multiMAN
11. it will exit to XMB
12. try watch bd movie from XMB

if the 1st trial didn't work then repeat it. I had to do this twice to get it working... very weird.. [multiMAN seems to have bugs or not using cobra way of doing this properly, I highly recommend webMAN method over mmCM method]

2. webMAN *MOD* method

1. install the latest webMAN MOD 1.43.04 with updater [it will automatically update the webman that's bundled], make sure to enable webMAN before you update
2. go to the webman setting from either xmb or your own web browser
3. change your bd region from webMAN.
4. Reboot
5. DONE!! enjoy region B movie on NTSC consoles :)

Redirecting browser downloads to /dev_hdd0

$

I was wondering if it would be possible to change the PS3 browser download behaviour.

When downloading a file with a browser a USB storage device is needed & /dev_hdd0 is not available.
Would it be possible to patch this so that /dev_usb00x redirects to /dev_hdd0?

I was also thinking about how cool it would be to enable background download (for big files) in the browser just like PSN does.
Would that be possible?

[Discussion/Research] FTP speed changes between firmwares

I recently became interested in this ftp speed differences between firmwares, I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this..

here is a talk noted in ps3devwiki.

Talk:GbLAN - PS3 Developer wiki

Summary :

Basically, Old CFW's FTP transfer speed is faster than current FW.

Code:

Updated test results
CECH-2001B

Seagate 500GB 3.5" via E-SATA dock

LV2 Kernel mode : CEX

Cobra payload : Disabled

Network : 1Gbps bridged between PS3/PC via LAN

FTP Client : Filezilla 3.14.0

FTP Server : REBUG TOOLBOX 2.02.XX [openFTP]

UL = from PS3 to PC

DL = from PC to PS3

Speed rate : Mb/s

REBUG FW | UL/DL

3.55.4  |  52/32
4.21.2  |  52/32
4.30.2  |  52/18.5
4.41.3  |  52/18.5
4.46.1  |  52/18.5
4.70.1  |  32/18.5
4.75.3  |  32/18.5

I'm wondering if anyone could share your experiences to get more accurate test results on various fw.

I'm wondering if this is caused by SONY's changes in LV1 or CFW patches (which I doubt)

test results above is from REBUG REX CFW, So it would be interesting to find out more variables between models and other non rebug cfws as well.

A while back developer CTurt made the PS4SDK open source PS4SDK and in around the same time announced code execution and the PS4 file browser. Some interesting reading for those that have not been following much about those advancements. In a recent post by the developer, CTurt, via github, has gone a little deeper explaining certain aspects of PS4 security and recent exploits. Definitely worth a read in my opinion.

The post, linked in the source below, covers these topics.

Hi to all guys ,

Where is Flatz ? Where is Kakaroto ? Where is Rogero ? Rancido ( PS3ITA TEAM ) , Habib ? ( disappeared? )

This is a end for PS3 scene ?

prevent ofw update options

$

Hi all,

I have been away from the ps3 scene for some time and after coming back it's been a bit difficult understanding all the development that has gone into.
Specifically I was researching options to prevent ofw updates and found the following options but I couldn't understand them exactly, hence this mail.

1. Rebug 4.76.1
The features of this CFW mentions PATCHED – "Recovery: Prevent accidental OFW update while on Recovery mode".
My questions are:
a. does this check only work in recovery mode?
b. does this protect against accidental update from the .pup file in game backup in JB folder format?
c. does this protect against accidental update from the .pup file in game backup in ISO format?
d. what about automatic updates?

2. webMan MOD - some of the older changelog says against accidental ofw update from game backups in JB folder or ISO format but not game disc. Is it still limited in this protection capability or updated to include protection from original game discs?

3. patches in emer_init.self - found this in a thread that claims to prevent accidental ofw updates from original game disk but it is not confirmed if any CFW uses this method?

4. patches in cobra mappath.c - found this in a thread that claims to prevent accidental ofw updates from game rip (any format) + disc + recovery? but again there is no way to know which CFW uses this method?

5. PS3Lock - simply locks the settings but would this prevent an update from the original game disc or rip?

Any help would be appreciated.

PS3 In-Game Menu

I took a small break from ps3xpad and decided to create an in-game menu. This is more of a POC for an in-game menu. Most of the features of this plugin have already been done by Mysis in VSH but it shows you can make a menu during gameplay. It can also lead to in-game trainers and such. You will need firmware with PS3MAPI enabled and a debug eboot of your game. You can either use webMAN-mod or using the supplied VSH plugin. The VSH plugin will automatically detect if a game has been booted and will attach the game menu plugin to it.

Game Menu Features:
- In game music player (music from hdd only)
- In game screenshots (saved to /dev_hdd0/tmp/ folder)
- In game recording (saved to /dev_hdd0/tmp/ folder)

VSH Menu Features:
- Auto detect and attach game menu plugin (may be disabled/enabled)
- XMB screenshots

2 requirements needed for loading and displaying the game menu.
1. 16MB free memory (if your game uses most of the 256MB of memory, the plugin will not work or will not display the menu until 16MB is free)
2. Game needs to run gcm (most games do)
You can tell if a game uses gcm by looking at the modules loaded during gameplay.
This can be done by using webMAN-mod and selecting your game proc from PS3MAPI interface. It will have libgcm listed as one of the modules loaded.

Installation:
1. Copy the plugins folder to /dev_hdd0/. You should have the directory /dev_hdd0/plugins/ps3_menu/ with ps3_vsh_menu.sprx and ps3_game_menu.sprx in it.
2. Add this line to plugins.txt if you're using PRX Loader or to boot_plugins.txt if you're using Cobra:
/dev_hdd0/plugins/ps3_menu/ps3_vsh_menu.sprx
3. Boot up a game and the game menu should automatically be loaded once it starts.
(Alternatively you may load ps3_game_plugin.sprx directly to the game using webMAN-mod PS3MAPI interface)

Notes:
- Unlike VSH where RSX buffer pointers are at the same address, these buffers are dynamic in games.
Fortunatley libgcm allows us to obtain them in game and giving us the ability to do blitting.
- Blitting in game follows the same procedure as VSH where we pause RSX and disable pad data for VSH to process.
The only difference is I'm using a hook instead of getting pad object from memory due to it being dynamic when switching from game to game.
- Be careful when programming game plugins. Unlike VSH where the same modules are loaded for every system, not all games will load the same modules and you will have to load them manually.
- Remember to change font and background constants in blitting.h if you want them custom and also enable their compiler flags.
- Make sure to pass the -B flag when compiling both vsh and game menu plugins concurrently. Shared objects need to be recompiled for each individually.
(make -B all)

VSH plugin exceptions when loading/calling library prx in VSH process

I'm attempting to extend webman to pull some psn network status data I'd like to expose via the web interface. My previous ps3 development experience was only in self contained executables, and I'm having some trouble figuring out the constraints involved in working within the vsh process. I need functionality from both libsysutil_np and libsysutil_np2, and I'm able to link the static stubs into the webman binary with no issues. I then load them into the process, and here I've tried several different approaches

  • Loading libsysmodule and using cellSysmoduleLoadModule
  • Loading the sprx directly with sys_prx_load_module
  • Loading the sprx using direct system calls as exposed in ps3mapi headers

In the first case, cellSysmoduleLoadModule causes a data storage exception on the vsh process in the webman thread, even if I've previously loaded libsysmodule manually. For the second cases, I'm able to load/start the modules fine (at least according to return values) but attempting to call any of the API functions causes the same data storage exception. After pouring through source code trying to understand how vsh works, it seems as though the vsh process already contains some of this functionality; in VSH - PS3 Developer wiki I can see that sceNpManagerGetNpId is listed under the "exports" category, for example. I find this confusing since vsh is an executable and I'm not sure what it means for an executable to have "exports," but in any case this highlights some misunderstandings I have about how vsh works.

  1. What does it mean for vsh to have "exports"? Does that mean that these functions are statically linked into the vsh executable? How would that work exactly, as the sdk docs I've read don't seem to provide any method for statically linking library code aside from stubs.
  2. Is there something fundamental that prevents loading/calling external libs in the vsh process, or is this a conflict between the functionality already statically linked in vsh and the dynamic library I'm attempting to load/call?
  3. I can't find an example from any vsh plugin that loads/calls external library prx APIs - is that because you're not supposed to or not able to do this?
  4. Could this be some version incompatibility between my sdk lib version and the current version of the vsh executable?
  5. Are there any resources I can use to learn more about vsh plugin development and how it works? I can't seem to find any info about this other than by reading through open source project code.

Basically, I'm looking for some help to understand why I can't use sdk libraries in a vsh plugin via the standard methods one would use in a regular elf executable, as well as hopefully some tips to find a workaround. I would really appreciate some small sample code to help understand the issue as well; the only responses I've gotten so far elsewhere have been vague one-sentence responses that didn't really help me understand what I was fundamentally misunderstanding so I could actually solve the problem. Thanks in advance for any help.

New PS3 Plugin Bringing You A In Game VSH Menu

Taking a break from PS3XPAD developer OsirisX dropped by the forum to share another great plugin he has been working on. This plugin is definitely going to be popular among Playstation 3 custom firmware users. The plugin is a proof of concept in its current state and allows you to pull up a neat VSH menu during gameplay. That means in game music, screenshots and game recording. Be sure to check out the release thread here at PSX-Place for all the details for this release.
